Homeschooling Resources at Your Fingertips

Why Choose a Christian Homeschool Curriculum?

If you’re a family that is preparing to homeschool or looking for new curriculum, then you’ve undoubtedly realized that there are a plethora of options available.  While many of the choices out there have the potential to provide your child with great learning tools and resources, a Christian curriculum can do much more than that.  So if you are struggling with which option to choose, check out these five main reasons to use a Christian Homeschool Curriculum.

1. A Christian curriculum allows you to share your faith.

What better way to share the word of God than through your child’s learning experience?  By opting for a Christian curriculum, you allow yourself the opportunity to engage in faith-based discussion through learning resources. When you think about how many hours your child will spend learning- an estimated 16,000 from kindergarten to high school, it helps you put matters into perspective.  How do you want your child to spend his or her time?  What do you want them to learn?  How do you want to share your faith with them during these critical hours of schooling?  Do you want prayer to be part of the way you send your schooling hours?  If so, a Christian curriculum might be best for your family.

2. A Christian curriculum gives your child confidence to share their faith with others.

When you have Christian principles applied in all subjects, they get a well rounded understanding and application of their faith. They understand Creation and Scientific matters in a new light and can view History and historic figures through a Biblical lens, learning from others mistakes and successes. And incorporating faith in their learning will help develop confidence for them to share their knowledge with their peers and friends.

3. A Christian curriculum keeps your child safe.

In addition to preserving your child’s physical well-being, a Christian homeschool curriculum also offers mental and spiritual preservation.  Many families contend that a Christian curriculum offers their children a much safer emotional and spiritual environment.  With your own homeschooling curriculum, you won’t need to deal with the “politically-correct, socially-tolerant attitudes” that pervade secular classrooms.

4. A Christian curriculum lets you integrate God’s word into all aspects of learning.

When scripture is weaved into every angle of your child’s learning, you essentially provide them with a foundation for learning.  With a Christian curriculum, Biblical principles are woven into all subject areas, so your child learns to appreciate his or her subject matter, as well as the word of God.  You can use many core subjects for examples and explanations that fit in with your worldview, and intertwine them so they naturally incorporate God throughout the homeschooling day. You’ll be able to share many conversations throughout the day that speak about the Bible, and your children will learn that their faith is just as important as their core subjects.

5. A Christian curriculum provides a moral compass.

Nowadays, it is increasingly difficult to shield our children from many unsavory aspects of the world.  While we can’t put them inside bubbles and shield them from the rest of society, we can certainly make sure that they have a moral compass to guide them into the world.  With a Christian curriculum, we can rest assured that we have given them the best guidance as they make their way through the challenges of the day.

6. A Christian curriculum sets a good example.

By utilizing a Christian curriculum in your homeschool day, you are providing an opportunity for your child to be an example to his or her peers.  Even if your child is only in pre-school, you can still set the foundation by integrating God’s word into your learning experiences.
With so many options available for homeschooling, it is easy to understand why the decision on a curriculum can be so overwhelming.  However, with a Christian curriculum in your homeschool, you’re bound to provide both an academically enriched experience, as well as a spiritual one.

Hello everyone! I’m Jessica Parnell — mom, homeschool evaluator, teacher, and CEO of Bridgeway Academy. In my 20+ years of experience as a homeschool mom and evaluator, I have had the privilege of meeting homeschoolers that take a variety of approaches to their education. It is their many stories and successes that inspire me in my own homeschooling and I love to pass on the knowledge that I have gained from them to other homeschooling families. The one constant that always remains true is that there’s no such thing as a “cookie cutter child.” Each child is fearfully and wonderfully made and as a result, learns and functions differently. It’s our job to ensure that we’re raising each child to fulfill their individual purpose and when we can teach in a way that inspires them, we are on our way to homeschool success. When I’m not writing or teaching my children, I like to ski, write and participate in triathlons. I graduated from Kutztown University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Masters in English and I am currently pursuing a degree in Neuroleadership.
