Rhode Island Homeschool Summary

If you are homeschooling in the state of Rhode Island, you will need to follow these steps:

1. Send a request to homeschool to your local school committee of your family’s district of residence. This request should be approved if the following requirements are met:

  • The period of attendance is “substantially equal” to that of the public schools,
  • An attendance register is kept, and
  • The teaching in the required subjects is “thorough and efficient.”

2. Take standardized testing if your local school district requires. It is not specifically required by the state, but your school district may make a special request of you and ask for testing to be done.

3. Appeal if you were denied to homeschool.
