New Mexico State Homeschool Law Summary
If you are homeschooling in the state of New Mexico, you will need to follow these steps:
- Notify the state superintendent of your intent to homeschool within thirty days of the establishment of the homeschool and on or before August 1st of each subsequent year. The notice must identify the school district in the intent, but you are under no legal obligation to notify your local school district.
- Complete at least 180 days of school. Keep a record of your school days and note that the exact number of days your child(ren) should be in attendance is based on your school district.
- Maintain immunization records or your exemption.
- Take note of requirements for parents. In New Mexico, parents homeschooling their child/ren must have at least a high school diploma or its equivalent.
