It’s Not Too Late to Start Homeschooling!

You’re worried, scared, nervous. You talk to your spouse and yes, the decision is made. Big changes are about to come to your home, even though it’s already messy and crazy. You make the decision to homeschool. In October. It’s October?! It’s too late! What did we do? Can we go through with this, even though the kids in the neighborhood started school, like, a month ago? I can’t homeschool — I can barely keep up with the laundry, the baby spit-up, and erasing the mud tracks through the jungle that is the living room!
Whoa there, Nellie! We know this is a transitional time for you and your family. We understand this decision can be stressful and time-consuming. But never fear, we’re here to help! Let’s walk you through how to start homeschooling.

How to Start Homeschooling Now

Make the commitment. Unity is really important for homeschooling. You and your family must all be on the same page and in it together. Committing to consistency throughout your homeschooling experience strengthens your family. Think about spiritual and moral values you want to instill in your kids, a schedule you want to keep, and even building relationships in the homeschooling community.

Know your state laws. Every state has different laws when it comes to homeschooling. Make sure you’ve researched them and adhere to their guidelines. You can read more about state laws here.

Know your child and yourself. Homeschooling is not a one-size-fits-all program, and how to start homeschooling seems daunting. There are so many options to choose from to help your child succeed. It looks like a lot to handle, but trust us, there’s a right program for your child. Our package finder makes it easy to sort through all those crazy options. Keep in mind that you’re also involved in choosing curriculum. Are you creative? Think about an option allowing you to teach with art. Are you more instructional and lecture-y? Another option is teaching textbook-style. Make sure you and your child agree on what’s best for both of you!

Explore your child’s interests. Homeschooling is a wonderful way for your child to discover his or her passions. Encourage their own learning through hobbies, because guess what? They ARE learning. Don’t hold back if your child is excited about a hobby or subject. Cater to them and watch them soar!

So, what now? Let’s discover the ways Bridgeway Academy can help you discover your and your child’s potential!

Open enrollment. Bridgeway offers open enrollment all-year-round. You’ve made your decision to homeschool, it’s October — don’t panic! We accept students every day. Best part? You can enroll today and start browsing our resources for FREE while you wait for your curriculum delivered.

Full support, whenever you need it. We guide you through the step-by-step process of enrollment. Making it complicated? Not our style. You have a “Go-To Person” for all things homeschooling. Have a question about a particular curriculum? We’re right here. Not sure about our live online classes? We can walk you through the process step-by-step.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. Record-keeping, planning, grades — oh my! Focus on your child’s learning, not the tedious tasks of taking care of logistics. We’ll handle that, too.

Your child’s curriculum, their way. Every student who enrolls is tested in academic abilities and placed in a grade level right where they belong. Whether in the middle of the grade level or not, Bridgeway makes sure every child has the opportunity to shine.

It’s not too late. Never. Whether you make the decision in April before the upcoming school year or right now in October, you can be assured that we’re ready when you are. Breathe in, breathe out. It’s okay. You’ve got this!

Jessica Parnell
Hello everyone! I’m Jessica Parnell — mom, homeschool evaluator, teacher, and CEO of Bridgeway Academy. In my 20+ years of experience as a homeschool mom and evaluator, I have had the privilege of meeting homeschoolers that take a variety of approaches to their education. It is their many stories and successes that inspire me in my own homeschooling and I love to pass on the knowledge that I have gained from them to other homeschooling families. The one constant that always remains true is that there’s no such thing as a “cookie cutter child.” Each child is fearfully and wonderfully made and as a result, learns and functions differently. It’s our job to ensure that we’re raising each child to fulfill their individual purpose and when we can teach in a way that inspires them, we are on our way to homeschool success. When I’m not writing or teaching my children, I like to ski, write and participate in triathlons. I graduated from Kutztown University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Masters in English and I am currently pursuing a degree in Neuroleadership.
