Community Service changes the lives of those who serve
As a homeschooler, you are likely seeking to build in your children,
- a strong character
- a moral foundation
- loving bonds at home
and we have seen time and time again how service projects do just that!
In fact, community service is often cited as one of the highlights of homeschooling.
Because they are available during the school day, homeschoolers have had opportunities to serve in ways that most people never experience until adulthood.
As a result, kids can see that they are never too young to make a difference and they begin to develop leadership skills, compassion and a love for others at an age when many are still focused on self.
Because we believe that community service activities are an essential part of education, we make it a requirement for all of our students once they reach high school. We work with you to find a way to tailor your service to what works for you and we provide Bridgeway sponsored community service for homeschoolers of all ages throughout the school year.
In 2012 we hosted a community service contest where students were able to showcase their community service efforts and earn a monetary award for their organization. You can visit our YouTube channel to see our outstanding students and their efforts to give back.
In 2013 we raised over $10,000 through our 30 hour famine and in 2014 we gathered supplies for orphans in Haiti. These are just a few of the opportunities for community service. But you can also incorporate it into your day independently. Check out this article for some terrific community service ideas that work for all ages. And be sure to keep us posted–we look forward to seeing how you serve those around you!
