Part of the beauty of homeschooling is that it is a two-way street.
Ironically, it is easy to get so wrapped up in your plans and ideas that you forget to check with your children. This is especially challenging for Moms who were teachers or managers (like myself).
But you will be amazed at how effective it can be to simply set up the boundaries and then allow your kids creative freedom within those boundaries.
Your willingness to bounce ideas off of your kids and to really consider their input will mean so much to them. Give them choices. If it’s time for a science or nature lesson, pull out the Instructor’s Guide and let them drive it or have them develop their own ideas. You might be surprised at what they come up with.
And take cues on how they are feeling. If they are extra-motivated and on a roll, ask them if they want to keep going or stick to the daily goals. You can always adjust and doing so will keep your child engaged and eager to keep learning.
Your Bridgeway Academy Instructor’s Guides (included in the Total Care System) are full of ideas for extending learning and getting creative. That makes it easy to adjust to your child’s interests and/or struggles. So get them involved and be prepared to see them take ownership of their learning.
