Maintaining the attention of younger students is often the most challenging thing homeschool parents face, and this blended learning program is the answer! This week was the debut of our Elementary Blended Learning Program which is tailored to meet the needs of each child’s learning style and personality through a variety of trusted resources brought to life through an exciting blend of the digital and traditional curriculum. This new elementary-focused blended learning program is a game-changer because delivering the curriculum through this variety of online and textbook methods has been proven the best way to hold the wavering attention of younger children. Homeschool parents are constantly competing with captivating digital distractions: smartphones, tablets, and other loud toys. To cut through and reach students educational strategies must incorporate a variety of methods to make learning interactive and effective.

Bridgeway Academy’s Blended Learning model promotes an effective mix of traditional and online educational tools that engage the student with both instructor-led and online interactive activities. By using all resources available – online, pencil and paper, and hands-on activities – children learn without boundaries and establish a strong foundation for a lifelong love of learning. With the Elementary Blended Learning Program, teaching experts prepare course content designed to grab interest and make textbook pages come to life. All of this makes your life as the homeschool parent that much easier because your kids will love to dive into their studies!

Another key to the elementary blending learning program is that it still uses traditional assignments which reinforce valuable paper-based reading and handwriting skills that can get lost in a strictly online school program. Research shows that handwriting and broader educational development are closely linked. In fact, handwriting leads to better information retention and an increase in ideas. Studies also suggest physical books are still foundational to learning, as reading solely on a digital screen can impair comprehension. Therefore maintaining this traditional element is important to the blended learning approach.

At the same time, the program’s online learning component puts a world of information at students’ fingertips, providing the flexibility and interaction shown to boost grades and long-term success. According to the U.S. Department of Education, technology use enhances students’ self-esteem and motivates them to learn.

We heard the concerns and frustrations of homeschool parents with elementary age students which is why we put together this exciting elementary focused blended learning program.

Blended learning can encourage students to develop a lifelong love of learning that will lead them forward confidently. With Bridgeway Academy’s new program, parents can harness the powers of the blended learning model in your home. We look forward to your questions and feedback as you embark on this journey with us!

Jessica Parnell
Hello everyone! I’m Jessica Parnell — mom, homeschool evaluator, teacher, and CEO of Bridgeway Academy. In my 20+ years of experience as a homeschool mom and evaluator, I have had the privilege of meeting homeschoolers that take a variety of approaches to their education. It is their many stories and successes that inspire me in my own homeschooling and I love to pass on the knowledge that I have gained from them to other homeschooling families. The one constant that always remains true is that there’s no such thing as a “cookie cutter child.” Each child is fearfully and wonderfully made and as a result, learns and functions differently. It’s our job to ensure that we’re raising each child to fulfill their individual purpose and when we can teach in a way that inspires them, we are on our way to homeschool success. When I’m not writing or teaching my children, I like to ski, write and participate in triathlons. I graduated from Kutztown University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Masters in English and I am currently pursuing a degree in Neuroleadership.
