You may have noticed the hashtag #TeacherAppreciationWeek (or #teacherappreciation, or any other variation) in your social media feeds during the first week of May. That’s because, yes, the first week of May was Teacher Appreciation Week! It’s a time to show just how much you and your children value and, of course, appreciate teachers and all that they do every day.

To say that the past year or so has been a challenge for educators is a bit of an understatement. COVID-19 brought about changes to education that none of us have ever experienced–remote learning, hybrid learning, social distancing, no lunch or recess, masks. And it all happened with no warning; adjustments had to be made on the fly, immediately, without any real playbook in place. Yes, there were some bumps in the road, especially during the initial stages during the spring of 2020, but to their credit, teachers (and other educators and administrators) hung in there, made the best of an awful situation, and kept on teaching!

That’s why Teacher Appreciation Week 2021 was so significant, meaningful, and special. Yes, those words all mean essentially the same thing, but there aren’t enough words to describe the resiliency, bravery, and commitment that teachers and educators demonstrated over the past 15-or-so months.

To show just how much Bridgeway Academy’s incredible, amazing teachers and advisors are appreciated and valued, families were encouraged to submit videos, emails, social media posts, and any other small token of appreciation to be publicly displayed for our teachers and advisors to see. And…wow, Bridgeway families…did you ever come through!

Bridgeway received nearly 100 messages of all kinds from families, each of which contained heartfelt words and sentiments of true appreciation for our advisors and teachers. There are many reasons why the Bridgeway community is considered one big family, and these submissions exemplified that sense of community.

While I certainly can’t speak for all of our teachers and advisors, I don’t think any of them would disagree with my saying that they all truly appreciate your appreciation! And that they love waking up each day and teaching your children and hopefully making a difference in their lives.

Teachers and advisors…the love and appreciation is certainly mutual, as evidenced by the touching words, videos, and pictures that were submitted by the children you teach and advise, as well as their families.

If you haven’t seen the compilation of all of these messages, check out the Kudoboard here (a special note of thanks to Bridgeway’s Liz Kindall for compiling and creating the awesome board)!

Of course, if you’d like to share a few words of appreciation for your child’s teacher or advisor, you certainly don’t have to wait until next May to do so! I can say with some confidence that our awesome teachers and advisors probably wouldn’t mind a thoughtful email or phone call at any time of year.

So, with this post full of appreciation, it seems appropriate to conclude it with more appreciation–to the families and students who were kind enough to submit their thoughtful words and pictures, and of course to our wonderful teachers and advisors, who manage to keep raising the bar year after year.

If you’d like to share some belated appreciation, please leave your message in the comments below!
