Thanksgiving in American Today-A Homeschool Study
A Thanksgiving Homeschool Lesson Plan
Thanksgiving is an annual event announced by the President of the United States. Each year, the current president issues a proclamation and each year that proclamation gives thanks to God for his blessings.
Although the feast between the Pilgrims and the local native Americans did occur, it is not the reason behind Thanksgiving.
To read several of the Presidental Thanksgiving Proclamations, visit this link.
After printing the proclamations, have your child write the different phrases that the four Presidents below used to describe how Americans should thank God for His blessings:
- Bush
- Clinton
- Reagan
- Kennedy
Then have your child(ren) describe ways they have celebrated Thanksgiving in the past and think of one or two new ideas they might incorporate in the next Thanksgiving to emphasize God’s goodness and their thankfulness to Him.
You can read several other proclamations here.
Read Thomas Jefferson’s entire proclamation.
