Homeschooling History:New Informative Homeschooling Article

globesmallBridgeway Academy is excited to announce the release of ‘Trends in Education: Schools From Greeks to American Homeschooling, an informative article that explores the history of education from ancient Greece to the growing trend of home education in the United States today.

The article begins by exploring Alexander the Great, who was tutored by Aristotle, and is considered one of the first known homeschoolers.  From ancient Greece to the Renaissance, children who received an education were either taught by their parents or private tutors.  Beginning in the Renaissance, the Roman Catholic Church began educating young men, and the subsequent Protestant Reformation resulted in the establishment of local parish schools.

By the 20th century in the US, education was available to all.  While public school education became the norm, a resurgence in homeschooling began in the 1970’s and continues today, as over 2 million American children are currently homeschooled.  This article delves into current trends in homeschooling, which provides children with a flexible, individualized education that meets their unique needs and encourages them to pursue their passions.   Click here to read the rest of the article.
