Jessica’s 7 Keys to Homeschool Success

Don t over-schedule
Limit yourself to one or two activities at a time and make schooling a priority. When you have more time to commit at home, schooling can become much more enjoyable! MORE

Don t under-schedule
Kids need variety and opportunities to be with others their own age so be sure to schedule extra curricular and social activities. There are many opportunities out there through local museums, art schools, Ythen MCAs, support groups, colleges, churches and historical sites. MORE

Set realistic expectations

Call for recess
Schedule regular breaks and take them whether you think you need them or not and be sure to spend at least one break enjoying your kids! The temptation is to get everything done right away and take the afternoon to explore creative arts, engage in physical fitness activities and socialize with other homeschool families. MORE

Stay organized
Putting your fingers on what you need when you need it makes for a much more enjoyable homeschool experience. At the beginning of the school year, commit a day to organizing your homeschool room. Engage your children in the task let them decide how to organize their supplies. MORE

Shift gears
On days when your kids just aren t getting it or are overly distracted, try a different approach. And while it is important to have daily lesson plans and weekly goals, don t let the curriculum drive the entire schedule every day. Observe your child and adapt your approach as necessary. MORE

Listen to your child
