What courses are best for my child?
What homeschooling approach should I take? How do I know he is
receiving everything he needs? What about electives? High school
courses? Credits? Diplomas?
Home schooling parents face these and myriad other questions
every day as they seek the best for their child(ren). Sometimes,
finding the answer is just a telephone call away.
Parents and students alike are finding the option of a
home
school umbrella school or academy to be a welcome one. With help
often just a quick e-mail or telephone call away, parents feel
supported, stimulated, and confident that their children are
receiving an outstanding education. For some, the benefit of a
homeschool academy is the help they receive as they seek to find
the right curriculum for their child. “No more guesswork,” says
a homeschooling Mom from Delaware, “I appreciate having a second
party who knows the law, knows the curriculum choices out there,
and can help me make the right choices.”
For others, it is the accountability: “ I needed to feel
accountable--not only for my own motivation, but also for the
sake of my son. He responds so much better knowing that there is
an advisor out there who is looking at his work and providing
feedback.”
A home school father found the “security in knowing that my
daughter will receive an accredited diploma,” to be the deciding
factor in his choice of a home school academy.
The comfort of knowing that the curriculum is professionally
selected and designed to work well in a homeschooling
environment is another frequently cited benefit of a home school
academy.
Overall, parents welcome the opportunity for professional help
while still enjoying the freedom of homeschooling.
Freedom itself varies from program to program.
Charter Schools
have become a recent trend among homeschoolers; however, many
parents are opting out after just one year due to the lack of
freedom. “We are required to put in a set number of hours each
day and in some cases, we complete the requirements before our
time is up. Spending time completing busy work to meet time
constraints is not what I anticipated,” said a mother of three.
Another parent explained that the lack of quality character
curriculum was disappointing, “I could get this curriculum
anywhere. I want to provide top quality academics, but I don’t
want to stop there. I want to develop my child’s character as
well.”
Other home school academies, such as Bridgeway Academy, allow
its families much more freedom. Upon enrollment, students are
tested for academic placement and the parent can provide input
as to what kind of curriculum they would like for their child.
The choices are many: Christian, traditional, on-line courses,
CD Rom, Textbooks, workbooks, Unit Studies, Literature-based
courses, and more are available through Bridgeway. Parents work
with the Academic Advisor to determine the best fit for their
child. They also have the freedom to provide any course on their
own and still receive the same record keeping and support
service they would using the curriculum provided by Bridgeway
Academy.
One member was very enthusiastic, “We love the Academy! Our
homeschool Advisor is very personable and knowledgeable. We know we are in
good hands here. Best of all, our son will receive a nationally
accredited diploma when he graduates. That was very important
for us.”
Bridgeway Academy has other advantages as well. Standardized
testing, record keeping, help with state requirements,
graduation ceremonies, diplomas, transcripts, contests, optional
school projects, on-line resources, and much more are part of
their standard program and set Bridgeway apart from their
competitors.
Affordability is always a concern. That is why Bridgeway Academy
is our top Homeschool Academy pick. They offer more, do more,
provide more, and cost less than the other major Homeschool
Academies. And their passion for the success of each and every
student is evident in their bend over backwards policy for
customer support.
